As some of you requested, I'm writing a post about healthy eating and what foods are good for what. I will list a few foods good for certain body parts or other health issues. Note, that although these foods are generally good, they might not be the best for everyone, I will expand on this statement later.
Egg yolks & yellow corn
Contrary to what many think, carrots are not the best for eyes, however they are still good. Egg yolks and yellow corn are foods that are good for the eyes. The brightly coloured compound, Lutein, that they contain may help to avoid age-related macular degeneration because they act as cell-damage-figthing antioxidants.
Salmon, tuna & nutsThese foods serve the brain exceptionally well. The omega-3 fatty acid, found in cold-water, fatty fish, like salmon, tuna or sardines, is said to protect the brain from dementia and reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. It is suggested to eat 120 grams of fish, twice a week. Nuts are also fatty and these bite-size nutritional powerhouses are packed with heart-healthy fats, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Oranges, milk & fortified soy beverages
Calcium contained by these products, is a building block of bone tissue early on during our lifetimes. Later in life, it helps fight osteoporosis. It is suggested to consume calcium on a daily basis, wheather in milk or in the form of a supplement.
Tomatoes, baked potatoes & prune juiceThe heart benefits from these foods. Potassium, found in these fruits and vegetables lowers the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. This is especially visible, when the consuption of sodium is lowered. We should have around 4700mg of potassium daily, a baked potato consists of 738mg and a cup of prune juice 707mg. |
Broccoli, brussel sprouts & bok choy
These food are good for the lungs. Vegetables are associated with reduced cancer risk and the glucosinolate contained by these vegetables ( and from the cabbage family ) are useful in keeping carcinogens from damaging DNA, and thus also avoiding cancer's developmnet
Ginger, beans, peas & plums
Ginger serves the stomach well. The other foods are good for mainly the colon. It was scientifically proven that eating ginger can battle motion sickness and even nausea associated with pregnancy. As little as a gram of powdered ginger might tame nausea or vomiting. Beans and peas are awesome sources of fiber, whose health benefits include keeping you regular. The dietary guidelines say women should eat 25 grams of fiber daily; men should consume 38.
Green TeaGreen tea has many benefits, including reduced bloating and preventing cancer of the prostate. Green tea’s antioxidant polyphenols can help prevent cancer of the prostate and other organs. It is also safe to drink in abundance. Surprise, surprise: Ice creamA 2007 Harvard study showed that women who ate high-fat dairy products such as ice cream reduced their risk of infertility. It’s not sure why; the authors surmised that the fat might somehow improve ovarian function when women are trying to conceive. |
Side note:
No matter how good these products seem to be, you should always put your health first, meaning that if you have an allergic reaction or an intollerance to any of these products, do not under any circumstance consume them. If you don't know wht you should probably avoid, here is a list of very common intolerances
